The History of Truck Trailer Transit!
Truck-Trailer-Transit, Inc. is a multi-million dollar, Detroit-based
corporation servicing a niche market--brakes systems for heavy-duty
vehicles including trucks, trailers and buses.
Started by R.
David Lawrence in 1982, the company concentrated on supplying the
heavy-duty brake sector of the automotive business because there were
areas that were not being covered; and, there was a general lack of
knowledge about wedge brake systems within the industry.
One of the big
reasons Truck-Trailer-Transit has succeeded in growing is that it did
not try to be "all things to all people". Originally, the company
focused only on using its expertise in wedge brake systems. In recent
years, it has expanded to include specialized S-cam brake systems to
its sphere of activity.
Shortly after it
started operations, the company added a re-manufacturing line for both
bus and truck wedge brake, and then built up a large inventory of
parts to provide custom maintenance and service kits as well as offer
delivery of transit coach and truck and trailer brake parts anywhere
in the USA within three days.
Since then, it has
added S-cam products such as brake maintenance kits, camshafts, brake
shoes, slack adjusters and selected brake drums to its product line.
Today, the company
services more than 70 percent of all transit operations (city bus
lines) in the United States, many trucking businesses as well as the
US military.
Over the past few
years, the company has increased its sphere of operation to include
North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and
Australia. Its next objective is to increase its penetration in
Eastern Europe and Asia.
While
the company has a quality assurance program and an internal,
continuous improvement program already in place, it has begun
implementing the process for approval necessary for International
Standards Organization QS 9000.
